Turmeric is absolutely one of the world’s healthiest foods, and golden milk (also known as a turmeric latte), is one of the healthiest (and coziest) drinks you can make.
Turmeric’s incredible benefits (thanks to its active compound curcumin) have been well documented throughout history. A true superfood, its health benefits range everywhere from protecting against cancer and heart disease, to boosting immunity, reducing pain (particularly joint pain when it comes to arthritis), aiding in digestion, boosting brain function, boosting liver detoxification, and protecting cells against free radical damage. The most well documented benefit is its powerful ability to reduce inflammation.
Chronic inflammation in the body has a direct link to most disease, so it’s important to keep it at bay. Golden milk has the ability to help with that – in a delicious and relaxing way.
Golden milk is a healing beverage that contains the super-spice combination of turmeric and black pepper. When these two spices are used together, the body is better able to absorb the health promoting compounds (remember this when cooking with it too!).
When I first learned about golden milk years ago, I was skeptical… turmeric and black pepper in milk does not sound appetizing. Turns out it’s really not bad at all. The maple syrup (or honey) in this golden milk recipe sweetens it, giving a more mild flavor. I love the calming effect it has on my body.
Drink it as a night-cap, or relax with it any time of day to take in its anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and immune-boosting properties.
