Made these chocolate peanut butter hearts for my little (and big) Valentines, and they’re just like a Reese’s… minus the junk of course! 🙃
They’re easy and quick to make, with only a small handfull of ingredients. No refined sugar, no artificial crap. A sweet treat I’m happy to feed to my family.
Of course, these don’t have to be just a Valentine’s Day treat. Instead of hearts, you can mold them into Easter eggs, footballs (for a fun Super Bowl snack), truffles, or just plain cups.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Hearts Recipe
Ingredients:
• 1 cup creamy peanut butter
• 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
• 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
• 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil + 1 teaspoon for chocolate coating
• 1/3 cup coconut flour (or 2/3 cup almond flour)
• 1 cup chocolate chips (I use Ghirardelli 60% cacao)
• Pinch of course sea salt for each
Directions:
1. In a medium sized bowl, whisk together the peanut butter, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil. Once well combined, add in the coconut flour. Stir thoroughly.
2. Lay parchment paper onto a sheet pan.
3. Form dough into approximately 1” size balls. Lay the dough balls onto the parchment paper and press them firmly to flatten, slowly working them into heart shapes.
4. Place in the freezer for at least 10 minutes to harden and get cold.
5. In a microwave-safe bowl or container, combine 1 cup chocolate chips with 1 teaspoon coconut oil and melt in microwave (approximately 1 1/2 – 2 minutes, stirring halfway through).
6. Remove the peanut butter hearts from the freezer and dip into the chocolate. The chocolate coating should harden pretty quickly. Sprinkle a pinch of course sea salt on top. Place back into the refrigerator or freezer until ready to eat!
Enjoy! ✨
*If you have a heart shaped cookie cutter, you can use that. Just roll the dough batter onto the parchment paper and freeze. Once the dough has hardened, you can begin cutting hearts out, then immediately coat with chocolate.
