We all go through those slumps when we just have absolutely no workout motivation. We wake up with every intention to get to the gym, or get outside and run, but the day goes by and we plan it for “tomorrow.” Here are some things you can do to give yourself that extra push.
Tips to Get Motivated to Workout:
Invest in new workout gear
Having nothing to wear is always a good excuse to not leave the house. Invest in a good selection of workout clothes and a good pair of sneakers so you don’t run into this conundrum. Plus, when you look good, you feel good. Wearing clothes you feel good in gives you a boost of confidence, which can certainly come in handy at the gym.
Get dressed like your going to work out
Even if you don’t fully intend to work out, put on the workout clothes you feel best in. I live in my yoga pants and sports bra when I’m home, so I’m ready to do some squats, jumping jacks, or go for a run if I get a good kick of inspiration at any moment.
Turn up the beats
We all have our favorite music that gets us going. Create a playlist (here’s mine) that will motivate you. Turn it on and crank it up when you need inspiration to move.
Look at fitness images that inspire you
Hello Pinterest and Instagram. There are plenty of accounts on those platforms that are sure to inspire.
Drink lots of water
By drinking more water, your body will be less tired and sluggish, and you will feel healthier and energized. Try to always have water with you, and drink up.
Have a workout buddy
Working out with a buddy makes it more fun. Plus, it’s harder to skip out on a workout when someone is counting on you to be there.
Mix up your routine
It’s easy to get bored of the same constant gym routine. If you find it hard to make it to the gym, maybe you can go hiking, kayaking, bike riding or running. Those are all amazing workouts. It’s good for your sanity and good for your body to switch up your fitness routine.
Join a group fitness class
Kickboxing, bootcamp, yoga, Pilates, Zumba… there are plenty of classes to choose from.
Group exercises are great because you become more involved. You have support from the instructor and from “classmates,” making it easier to push through a workout. Also, you’ll likely learn new routines and techniques, and may even discover muscles you never knew you had.
Have something to work towards
It’s easier to get motivated to workout when you have something to look forward to, such as a marathon, a beach vacation, a weigh-in, etc. Give yourself something to look forward to and keep that in the back of your mind for motivation.
And finally, just think of how great you feel after a good workout ??
