Three Thing for Thursday: Heart Health Essential, Freshen Your Home Naturally, Best Cookie Recipe for Game Day

Happy Thursday! I hope your week is going well. Popping in today with the latest round of Three Things for Thursday. Let’s dive in…

1. Heart Health Tip for February ❤️

February is Heart Health Month, and when we think about heart health, we often focus on exercise, diet, and stress management. But there’s one vital nutrient that’s often overlooked: magnesium. This mineral plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy heart, regulating blood pressure, and ensuring proper muscle function – including the heart itself.

Some common signs of magnesium deficiency are muscle cramps and spasms, irregular heartbeat, fatigue or weakness, high blood pressure, and migraine headaches. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to get more magnesium through your diet.

In my latest blog post I dive into the many benefits of magnesium for heart health, how it works in the body, and how to get more of it through food and supplements. Check it out here

2. DIY Non-Toxic Home Freshener

We’re deep into the throes of winter, and with windows closed and germs circulating, our indoor air can feel quite stale. It’s nice to freshen it up once in a while! But instead of relying on store-bought air fresheners filled with synthetic chemicals, why not make your own non-toxic air freshener?

Here’s a simple and effective DIY simmer pot to boost your home’s air quality and freshen it up naturally:

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 orange (sliced)
  • 3-4 cloves
  • 1-2 drops of eucalyptus or lavender essential oil

Directions:

Simply add the ingredients to a pot of water and simmer on low heat for hours.

This not only smells incredible but also helps support respiratory health with the eucalyptus and cloves, known for their antimicrobial properties. You can even change up the ingredients to suit your preference – add lemon, rosemary, or ginger for a unique scent. Your home will smell amazing and feel extra cozy, too!

3. Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies: A Cozy Super Bowl Treat 🍪🏈

Sometimes, we just need a comforting treat, especially when there’s a big game or gathering around the corner. These Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies are my go-to for when I want to bake a batch of something delicious to share with friends and family. They’re perfect for Super Bowl Sunday, but they’re also a great way to treat yourself in the winter months.

While they aren’t exactly a health food (let’s be honest!), they are a far better option than store-bought cookies that often come loaded with artificial ingredients, excess sugars, and refined oils. I love that these cookies are packed with oats, which provide soluble fiber to support digestive health and energy levels.

Here’s the full recipe – trust me, they’ll disappear fast!
